The team at The Good Place are very passionate about teaming up with OzHarvest to #fightfoodwastage!
OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1300 charities supporting people in need across the country.
We have organised for OzHarvest to do their thing by collecting food wastage at every one of our nationwide restaurants, on a weekly basis.
We are extremely humbled to have OzHarvest as one of our cherished community partners as we believe their values and integrity align with our own. Community engagement is the heartbeat of OzHarvest and continues to grow every day through their devoted team of like-minded partners, who they fondly call their ‘yellow army’. We agree whole heartedly with the team at OzHarvest who state; “there is no better way to experience how we nourish our country than rolling up your sleeves and getting involved!”
OzHarvest was founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn, after noticing the large amounts of good food going to waste from the hospitality industry,
this was an issue she couldn’t ignore, therefore she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Ronni started in Sydney with one van, a mission which became the first of many donations from Goodman+ Foundation. During this time she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month.
Food waste costs Australia an estimated $20 billion a year. A massive five million tonnes of food ends up in landfill, with over half of this coming from our homes, this is more than the combined waste from farms, manufacturers, supermarkets and the hospitality industry.
We are excited to do our bit by donating our food wastage to OzHarvest every week and we envision that by doing so we can set the bench mark and show others in our industry how easy it is. We hope this becomes something our entire hospitality industry will eventually take part in nationwide.
